December 11th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A Ticabus driver was arrested on suspicion of money laundering after authorities discovered $375,000 hidden inside the walls of the bathroom of the bus he was driving.

 

The seizure was made by agents of the Drug Control Police (PCD) on the Peñas Blancas border on Monday.  The cash was contained in 32 packages wrapped in plastic and duct tape.

 

The bus and driver were returning from Mexico.

 

The 51-year-old driver, identified by the last name Loria, was arrested at the scene but was freed by a judge yesterday. He is not allowed to leave the country, pending possible charges.  While there were 54 passengers on the bus at the time of seizure, authorities identified the driver as the primary suspect.

    The Criminal Court of Liberia freed yesterday afternoon the principal suspect, the driver of the Tica Bus, which came out of Mexico and had $375,000 hidden in a wall.

      Of course it did. The courts in Costa Rica always free criminals so they can go back out into society to commit further crimes. That is unless you’re a gringo! If so, then it’s off to preventative detention while the square wheels of justice grind ahead at a snails pace. I’ll bet if they catch the criminals who robbed the tourists in tortuguero we’ll hear that each of them had been arrested dozens of times before, but served no prison time, for similar crimes.as is so very often the case in CR.

      The Judges are trying to figure out who gets the money and what is their share. Oh! someone snitched how would anyone think to take a wall out in the bathroom full of cash . Something does not add up here.
