Port workers threaten to continue strike, government says it will take action as two cruise ships due to arrive

November 12^th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) The port and dock workers’ union known as JAPDEVA is threatening to continue the strike it began yesterday, jeopardizing the arrival of two cruise ships filled with thousands of passengers each.

As a result, Communications Minister Carlos Roverssi said the government would intervene to lift the blockades should workers follow through on the threat.

Yesterday, another cruise ship with 2,000 passengers on board was forced to scratch Costa Rica from its itinerary due to the strikes, costing the government $8,000 in tax revenue and depriving locals of income from the sale of souvenirs and other goods and services.

Roverssi did not elaborate on what measures the government plans to take to end the situation.
