I know some people need a strong religion, but are all these trips to visit the Pope really necessary? What? Is there one gigantic “confession booth” in the Vatican?

Well, the videos seem OK, but the text suggests that part of Chinchilla’s agenda was to enlist the Pope’s support in her constant crusade against Nicaragua. I wonder how that went.

Actually, some papal attention to Nicaragua could be a good thing, but probably not for the objectives Chinchilla has. First Lady Rosario Murillo is institutionalizing a totalitarian brand of Christianity that the Church might want to weigh in on.

Of course, the abortion thing is the usual hypocrisy. My understanding is that Ticas with means can and do get medical abortions fairly easily by going to private clinics, leaving the abortion ban to apply to only poor women.
