November 11th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Agents with the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) equipped with explosive-sniffing dogs responded to a bomb scare at the Goicoechea courthouse on Friday, after an anonymous phone call led authorities to a suspicious device in an upstairs bathroom.

The discovery of the device led to the evacuation of the entire building.

In a photograph provided to RTN News Channel 13 by a source at the court, what appears to be a tightly wrapped package with two red cables connected to it can be seen in a toilet.

An investigation is ongoing to determine if the device was in fact an explosive, and who may have placed it in the building.

Editor’s note: Local media reports after press time for this article indicate that authorities determined the device was a hoax.  We have updated the headline/title of the article as a result.

“…investigation is ongoing?” Really? How much investigating does it take to see to what those big wires might be connected (if anything)? I mean, if they are not connected to a battery, or some source of power – or detonator, then how could it possibly explode, whatever it is?

I thought the investigation had been completed. El Diario Extra reported Saturday the device was actually a brick wrapped in aluminum foil with two wires attached.

days later and they are still trying to figure out if it was real or not ????

If you followed the story of the poor guy who was recently driven to suicide because of the “justice” this court administered, then you will not be surprised to learn that there are a lot of people angry outraged about judgements coming out of this court. See the facebook page for the Fundación Instituto de Apoyo al Hombre and scroll back to around Nov. 3 to learn more.

I’m with Erica. No, it wasn’t me who planted the apparently fake bomb, but based upon my experiences with the court, I can appreciate why someone did. For all the lofty rhetoric about human rights in this country, exercising them in that convoluted court isn’t for amateurs.
