Security will be tight at hearing on Moin Container Terminal
November 7th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A hearing regarding the Moin Container Terminal, which would be constructed by Dutch firm, APM Terminals, will be held in Limon on Saturday, and security will be on hand to avoid any conflicts amongst the some 600 people expected to attend.
Specific details of the project, and its environmental, economic and social impacts are to be discussed during the hearing.
Rogelio Douglas, project manager with APM, hopes to avoid any altercation between supporters of the project and those against it.
“[Unions], and a small group of environmentalists who are not from the area, are those who have expressed opposition to the project, but we know the vast majority of the population is not against [the project],” Douglas said.
During the hearing, 15 experts in various fields will be present to answer questions from the audience regarding the environmental impact study that APM has presented to the National Environmental Technical Secretariat (Setena).
Security will include police, private security, transit police and the Red Cross.
The Dutch company is confident it will meet all of the requirements necessary to develop the $1 billion USD project, over which it would receive a 33-year concession.
