Olympic Torch Arrives at International Space Station

November 7th, 2013 (VOA) A rocket carrying an unlit Olympic torch has arrived at the International Space Station, where the torch will be taken on an unprecedented spacewalk in the run-up to the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi early next year.
The Russian Soyuz-FG rocket blasted off from Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan early Thursday. Accompanying the torch were three crew members: a Russian, an American, and a Japanese citizen.
Two Russian cosmonauts living at the station are expected to take the torch on a first-ever spacewalk on Saturday before bringing it home to Earth on Monday.
The torch will remain unlit for safety reasons. After its return to Earth, it will travel across Russia before being used to light the Olympic flame February 7 in Sochi, at the opening of the Games.
