Mexico: Drug capo gunned down by clown at children’s party
LA PAZ, Mexico (ISH) – The eldest brother of Mexico’s once powerful Arellano Félix drug cartel family was killed by a gunman dressed as a clown at a children’s party, authorities said on Oct. 19.
Francisco Rafael Arellano Félix, 63, was fatally shot during a family event at a residence in Cabo San Lucas, a tourist resort in the Baja California peninsula, on Oct. 18, Isai Arias, a state special investigations prosecutor, told reporters.
Francisco Rafael Arellano Félix was arrested in 1980 in San Diego, Calif., for selling drugs and returned to Mexico upon his release on bail. In 1993, he was arrested in Mexico and jailed on drug charges. He was extradited to the United States in 2006 and was sentenced to six years in jail after confessing to selling drugs to an undercover agent.
