October 16th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Attackers attempted an assault on a caravan of three armored trucks belonging to VMA Valores as they traveled down the highway between Sabana Oeste and Escazu, on their way to Guanacaste via the Caldera highway. The trucks usually transport currency to banks.
According to reports, the armored vehicles were intercepted by a white car, which opened fire on the vehicles. This led to an exchange of gunfire between the security guards traveling in the armored vehicles and the suspects.
The attackers retreated, and left their vehicle abandoned just meters away from the scene.
There were unconfirmed reports that two people may have been injured in the gunfire.
The incident is being investigated by the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ).
