October 4th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A U.S. man in his early 30’s, identified as Benjamin Adams McCoy, and his girlfriend were found dead yesterday in a rented home in a quiet Tres Rios neighborhood, east of San José.
The bodies were discovered slightly after 3 p.m yesterday by the woman who owns the home, who was concerned after she was unable to contact the man.
The man’s body was found in a pool of blood in a bathtub with a gunshot wound to the head, while the body of his girlfriend was found near a bedroom.
Gustavo Mata, deputy director of the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ), said authorities found drugs inside the home, in addition to a note that mentioned suicide.
Mata said there were no signs of forced entry, and nothing had been stolen from the home. Authorities found a 9mm pistol near the man’s body.
The woman, also described as being in her 30’s, is believed to be of Mexican nationality.
The woman had no visible injuries to her body, but did have a bloody nose, according to the Red Cross. As a result, it is believed she may have died of a drug overdose.
The couple was last seen on Tuesday, and reportedly had only been living in the home for about two months.
An investigation is ongoing.
