October 3rd, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) The Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) has restored mining company Cemex’s concession to mine limestone in the canton of Abangares in Guanacaste.
The company’s concession had been suspended after a complaint filed by the Municipality of Abangares claimed the firm had failed to pay a tax dictated by Article 40 of the Mining Code.
However, MINAE’s Directorate of Geology and Mines ruled that Cemex’s activity is not subject to the tax in Article 40.
Cemex has held the concession for the mining of non-metallic mineral resources – in this came, limestone – since 1974.
