Lawmaker apologizes for comments against Jews

September 17th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Citizen Action Party (PAC) lawmaker, Manrique Oviedo admitted that a series of comments he made against the Jewish community during budget talks were a mistake.

Oviedo accused Vice President Luis Liberman of “defending the interests” of friends in Costa Rica’s Jewish community.  In his comments, Oviedo referenced the book, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion by Hernann Goedesche.

Oviedo made a public apology for his remarks yesterday afternoon.

Liberman, a member of Costa Rica’s Jewish community, said through a written statement that “it is not right to stoke racial and religious prejudice,” and that Oviedo “does not represent the feelings of the Costa Rican people.”

This Oviedo character needs firing from politics immediately. He is an obvious threat to racial harmony in Costa Rica and the fact he quotes a book that has been proven to be fictional and is hate-filled propaganda shows what a miscreant he is.

  • stfree

Yes, it certainly was a “mistake” to show his true thoughts. Now everone knows who he really is. His apology means nothing.

Excuse me but being part German Jew through my grandmother’s side, I want to remind you that Lieberman comes from the banking sector which is NOT run by Christians,eh? I refuse to pretend that he is not inline with Zionism and when he was first brought into Laura’s fold I saw trouble coming. HIs main objective is to pull more money(via taxation) out of the Ticos alleging it is to help them have better roads, etc. Yeah right!
I took no offense to Oviedo’s statement. What he should have said though is that Lieberman is working for the banksters, NOT COSTA RICA. Making Oviedo apologize is like making me apologize for wanting Israel to stop encroaching into Palestinian lands. Being Jewish does not make me think it is ok. Behind closed doors I can assure you that Lieberman habla paja about the muslims he sees here. Bet my house on it!

You took no offence because you are a half-wit.
Whatever Lieberman does as a politician bears no consequence on his religion and the Jewish community here. And if another politician or any other supposedly upstanding and intelligent member of society quotes a vehemently anti-Semitic book to discredit a fellow politician then that invokes racial hatred and it is a crime.
Matters not your grandmother or great aunties cat was Jewish, if you agree with him then you are in turn a racist. Well done!!!

Jorge your comment is so full of name calling and non-facts.

#1. Judaism is a religion NOT a race. My religion is Judaism, my race is mixed. Therefore, your remark that I am racist is hugely incorrect. My friend from Uganda practices Judaism but her race is Black. No, not African as there are white Africans also.

#2. Jorge, you are the only one who thinks politicians including Lieberman are squeaky clean and don’t take actions or pass laws that would “bear consequences for their religious community”. The fact that he has worked his adult life as a bankster won’t effect him either-eh?

The word antisemitism has been run into the ground like an old shoe and those who use it often practice reverse antisemitism on others which seems to be just fine.

You clearly have not done your homework on Lieberman’s background and like I said before, Lieberman will be doing his work for the banksters as usual. I never said bringing up religion in politics is acceptable.

    • Jorge

Judaism is a religion and Jews are race made up of many ethnic backgrounds.
You can still be a self-hating Jew and a racist, which coincidentally, you are.

The issue wasn’t about Lieberman, it was about Oviedo spouting anti-semitism as part of his political argument.

You concentrated on Lieberman being a Jew because you hate Jews. Instead of castigating Oviedo for showing his hatred towards Jews you would rather spout nonsense towards Lieberman. And read what you wrote…you did bring religion into it.
