OIJ agent caught stealing receives three months suspension with pay

September 2nd, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) An agent of the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ), identified by the last name Páez, will receive a three month suspension with pay after being found guilty of stealing cash and valuables from his coworkers as well as items belonging to the OIJ.  Páez’s punishment was decided by the Criminal Court of San José.

 

Páez was apparently caught on video stealing cash and valuables from his coworkers’ desks.  Agents of the Theft and Robbery Section began the investigation against Páez two months ago.

 

Páez has worked as an OIJ agent for 10 years, most recently in the Sex Crimes section.

    OIJ agent Páez,caught red handed Stealing from coworkers ends up with THREE months vacation with pay. These are the ones who are suppose to investigate crime? Ethic mean nothing here? So there are more and more thieves working in Government jobs on all levels. Hey Lady Laura what do you have to say about this and the Judge? Nice EH!

      Kind of sounds like the IRS, DHS people in the US. Put on administrative leave with pay. Another paid vacation at the taxpayers expense!

    The Judge and Paez should get 2yrs at hard labor. Both are criminals.

    Crime really does pay in Costa Rica. I wonder how much the judge got? And why doesn’t the OIJ have personnel rules/regs about employees being convicted of crimes losing their jobs? Sounds like the OIJ enables crime, even against their own employees.

    This is literally the dumbest thing I have ever heard!! Not surprised that pretty much all types of crimes are going up when they can’t even control the very people who are supposed to enforce the laws and protect the people.

    Stealing from co-workers is a national pastime here. All the business’s that I had here we had to put a camera on the refri because everyone would get their food stolen on a daily basis. No surprise that in the OIJ office it is the same deal.

    There’s a reason Ticos prefer to work for the government. It’s really a two-tiered system here, albeit with the multinationals offering a third option. But in general, this kind of thing only happens for government employees.
