August 22nd, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Three transit police officers have been arrested and are charged with having accepted a bribe from a license-less drunk driver who crashed into a tree in front of a school in Desamparados.
The three transit officers, identified by the last names Alvarado, Ledezma and Mena, apparently negotiated with the family of the drunk driver after they arrived at the scene.
Allegedly, the officers arranged a bribe of ¢ 80,000 (about $160) with the wife and son of the driver and later released the man – who also did not have a drivers license – without issuing citations. The officers also released the vehicle back to the drunk driver.
