Banana worker arrested for rape of 6-year-old indigenous girl

July 16th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A 52-year-old banana worker was arrested on Sunday night by the Sixaola border police on suspicion that he raped a 6-year-old indigenous girl.

The incident occurred at the La Palma banana plantation, located six kilometers from downtown Sixaola.

The suspect was identified by the last name Guevara.  He apparently convinced the girl to accompany him by offering her gifts.

The parents of the girl, who is an indigenous Panamanian, went looking for the girl after being unable to find her.  They later located the child in the suspect’s home, who offered no explanation as to what she was doing there.

The parents said that loud music playing in the suspect’s home caught their attention.

The child was taken to the Tony Facio Hospital in Limon after the attack, where she remains hospitalized.

A judge imposed four months of preventive detention after questioning Guevara yesterday.

This man should be punished. The law won’t do it.

A 9 year old girl was raped and impregnated by a Nicaraguan banana worker in 1998. Costa Rica forbid the abortion, nor would give her a visa to the USA who offered to help. She ended up in Nicaragua for the abortion. If anyone finds this man please castrate him with no regard to the law. They will never protect these children.

What part of “arrested” and “four months preventative detention” are you missing? I don’t know what’s got your goat, but based upon the story you can hardly say the law isn’t working. And, for what it’s worth, I’m lost over why you would identify the molester as Nicaraguan. Are you implying that Nicas are more apt to be child molesters than others? Granted, they probably are more apt to be banana workers, but child molesters too?

http://www.monitor.net/monitor/0302a/copyright/catholicrape2.html I in no way am implying that Nicas are more apt to rape. Those are your words. Read the story above. You must be brand new here. Do you even know what preventative detention is? His court case will never come up in 4 months. This is a wonderful country, but the archaic laws need to be changed and women need to have a right to choice.
