Violent home invasion suspects have been arrested 50 times

July 15th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Law enforcement officials in Ciudad Colón and Santa Ana reported the capture of three home invasion suspects who attempted to assault a home in the El Rodeo area of Cuidad Colon yesterday.  The surprising part is that the suspects have already been arrested 50 times.

 

The suspects were identified by the last names of Díaz Palacios, Alvarez Alvarado and Lacayo Lacayo.  The first suspect has appeared in front of prosecutors 20 times for crimes ranging from robbery, aggravated robbery, rape, aggravated assault, violent robbery, attempted murder, and escape, amongst others.

 

For his part, Alavarez Alvarado has previously gone in front of the court on charges of forgery, receiving stolen goods, drug trafficking, robbery, and suspicion of international drug trafficking.  Meanwhile, Lacayo Lacayo has previously been charged with crimes including illegal possession of weapons, resisting arrest, and drug possession.

 

The suspects were captured at a roadblock after a 911 call reported gunshots inside a home.  Officers arriving at the scene managed to spot three men fleeing the home in a vehicle and radioed an order for the roadblocks.

 

The owner of the home apparently received a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

    In another weekend shooting, gunmen killed a woman and wounded her husband in Barrio Limoncito, Limón, about 7:40 p.m. Saturday.

    The man and the woman, identified by the last name of Sánchez, were at their home when three men drove up and opened fire, said the Judicial Investigating Organization. The woman died at the scene with 10 bullet wounds to her body. The man suffered six wounds and was hospitalized.

    The man is a school teacher in Batán, and the woman, 26, worked in a freight operation connected with the Limón ports, said agents.

    In Barrio La Pitahaya, Cartago, about 9 p.m. Saturday a store customers died in a struggle with a bandit. Investigators said the victim was a 32-year-old man with the last name of Fernández. He was in the small supermarket when two men dressed in black and with their faces covered came in and announced a robbery. The store owner began to struggle with one of the men, and Fernández came to his aid. He suffered two bullets in the stomach.

    The robbers took the store cash register with about 20,000 colons and some 15,000 colons that was the change due the dead customers, said agents. The total is about $70.

      yeah, but those are all “crackheads” reported by people “that barely speak Spanish”.

    It might be a great civics lesson to follow these criminals and see how far the Justice System goes in prosecuting these violent thugs. It would appear that they are free to go after a few minutes detention. No wonder CR is no longer considered a good place to invest and retire.

      Remember in Costa Rica, they can only apply the law relative to the charges of the day. Historical criminal records cannot be mentioned in court.

      “these violent thugs”, as you call them, have families to support. You can’t possibly put the pobrecitos in jail–they are only trying to make a living as best they can. Of course, it never occurred to productively work–it’s far easier to steal what you want–with the blessing of the state.

    Donna Laura needs to be fired, People neeed to be armed and trained. Instead of just sitting in prision , prisoners need to do hard labor, raies there own food, build other prisons ,make big rocks in to gravel!

    As hesitant as I am to lend my voice to the lock-’em-up chorus, at some point you do have to wonder WTF is going on. I mean, there are gringos sitting in jail simply because they don’t have receipts showing that Social Security is paying their child support and we all know that we gringos risk preventative detention for an expired parking meter, yet they let these guys off and off and off? Clearly the cops are doing their jobs, since these guys keep getting arrested, but WTF is going on in the courts?

      The problem is that the College of Lawyers in Costa Rica rarely, if ever, polices its own. The phrase I was given was, “A fireman does not step on another fireman’s hose.” Consequently, we have a great many unregulated corrupt lawyers who play the system to their advantage any way they want and, of course, many of those individuals become judges.
