July 8th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Costa Rican authorities arrested three Colombians and seized 310 kilos of cocaine after intercepting a speedboat on the country’s Pacific coast, official sources said yesterday.
The operation was carried out by officers of the National Coast Guard on Saturday, when officers intercepted the 26-foot speedboat 47 miles south of Quepos, in the province of Puntarenas.
“Authorities discovered a shipment of drugs which was hidden in a double compartment in the boat’s structure,” Security Minister, Mario Zamora said.
In total, authorities discovered 310 kilos of cocaine in the vessel that was manned by three Colombian nationals identified by the last names of Rodriguez Cortés, González Portocarrero and Salas Alegria, who were placed under arrest.
The men face charges of international drug trafficking, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
So far this year, Costa Rican authorities have seized nearly eight tons of cocaine.
