July 3rd, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) The driver who crashed an 18-wheeler trailer into the perimeter fence of the Juan Santamaria Airport while driving drunk Sunday night will go free in exchange for offering a $600 donation to charity, which was accepted by the judge in the case.
The driver, a Honduran, will donate $600 to the Association for the Elderly of Alajuela.
The offer was accepted under what is becoming a more common ‘alternative’ used by judges, where defendants admit their guilt and pledge to help a social cause in exchange for the courts dropping charges against them.
The judge accepted the alternative measure yesterday morning, leaving the man free.
The company which owns the trailer truck will pay for the damages.
