CANATUR: Poor condition of road to Monteverde affecting tourism

June 12th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Business owners in Monteverde are seeing the number of visitors to the area decline as a result of the poor condition of the road that leads to the popular tourist destination, according to the National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR).

Hotel occupancy has dropped between 15% and 20% since 2011, and business owners and residents are now demanding that the main tourist route to the area be paved after years of deterioration.

Monteverde is home to some 220 tourism-related businesses including hotels, restaurants, tour operators and more.

On Monday, some 500 Monteverde residents marched on the Interamericana Norte Highway in protest of the condition of the road.

so why don’t the hotel owners pony up and fix the road?

    • mhogan

And make them pay twice? Once through taxation and secondarily direct? That hardly seems fair to me. If the hotel owners do fix up the roads, you think the government will give them a tax refund? Absurd.

      • georgechapogas

quite absurd indeed. to expect government to function as your business fairy godmother. much more sane to march around with signs and whine. if government worked anywhere we would not have to do anything for ourselves. what a fool i am to think otherwise, i should just march to be serviced. anyone that thinks they pay taxes to have services run well is certifiably insane. step into the light. you want something, do it your damn self. it is important to you, then buy it.

you totally missed the more “obvious” remedy — something only a fool would put to specificity.

let me know if you ever have a point to make.
