MOPT officer caught with sea turtle eggs while driving drunk

June 10th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Police officers with the Fuerza Publica arrested a MOPT traffic officer, identified by the last name Rojas, while driving drunk and in possession of a dozen protected turtle eggs.  The arrest took place yesterday morning.

The traffic officer was apparently on his day off when he was detained at a police checkpoint near Moin, Limon.

Police officers at the same checkpoint also discovered 200 protected turtle eggs in the luggage hold of a bus.  The eggs for confiscated but the person responsible was not identified.

Moin is the same beach where environmentalist Jairo Mora worked to protect the sea turtles and their eggs.  Mora was murdered on the beach on May 31st.

Conservation groups have since offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the capture of those responsible for Mora’s death.

Another Government worker going to run for office, maybe the next Diputado. Corruption breeds more culprits. Nothing going to happen other than he gets a 3 month vacation with pay and a promotion.
