Tourist missing for two days in Cerro Chirripo found alive

June 7^th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A woman who had been missing for more than two days in the Cerro Chirripo National Park was found alive yesterday morning.

Rocio Vegas, a nurse at Hospital Mexico, was found alive and apparently in good condition, despite being missing for more than two days without food or shelter.

Authorities began a search and rescue operation to locate the woman on Tuesday.

Cerro Chirripo is the highest point in the country, located 3,821 meters above sea level.

From the summit it is possible on clear days to see all across the country from coast to coast, from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea.

Climbing Chirripó is possible by obtaining a permit from the National Park office in San Gerardo de Rivas. From the trailhead, the summit can be reached via a 19.5-kilometre (12.1 mi) hike.
