June 5th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Dozens of vigils will be held throughout Costa Rica today, commemorating World Environment Day and the life of Jairo Mora, an environmentalist who was murdered on May 31st.
Mora worked to stop the poaching of leatherback turtle eggs on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast.
Mora was found shot, execution-style, on Moin beach, a nesting ground for the turtles he worked to protect.
Today marks World Environment Day, celebrated every year on June 5th. It was established in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly.
Environmentalists and citizens throughout the country plan to commemorate Mora’s life and death today, through vigils that will be held throughout the country.

Heredia: In front of the courthouse, 5pm
Guanacaste: Central Park in Cañas, 5pm
Perez Zeledon: San Isidro Park, 6pm
San Carlos: Central Park in Cuidad Quesada, 5pm
Puerto Jimenez: In front of MINAE, 4:30pm
