May 27th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale shook southern Costa Rica this morning.  The quake struck at 3:41 a.m. on the country’s border region with Panama, at a shallow depth of just 7 miles.

The earthquake’s epicenter was about 23 kilometers southwest of Sixaola.

Perhaps because of its shallow depth, the earthquake was felt as far away as Alajuela, Cartago, Puntarenas, San Jose, and other areas of the country.

As of 6:27 a.m., authorities have reported some 30 aftershocks.

Authorities in both Costa Rica and Panama stated earlier that no injuries or damage had so far been reported.

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake was also registered on the other side of the country about an hour earlier, in Golfito de Puntarenas.
