With only two days to go, only 50% of public officials have listed their assets

Contraloria , Comptroller General

May 21st, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) With only two days remaining until the official deadline, only 50% of public officials who are required to file an affidavit of their assets have done so.  The deadline set by the Comptroller General’s office (Contraloría ) expires at 4pm on Thursday.

Some 16,500 public officials and others in the government sector are required to file the affidavit, in compliance with the Law Against Corruption and Illicit Enrichment in Public Office.

Officials who fail to submit statements of their assets, or who are late to submit the statements, are exposed to possible administrative and punitive sanctions, including the possibility of being removed from office.
