May 8th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A worker performing a soil study found a fragmentation grenade in San Antonio de Escazu.

Upon making the discovery, the worker carefully took the grenade to the Mata Redonda police station, which later turned the grenade over to national security authorities for destruction.

The grenade was identified as a “Type 771” fragmentation grenade.

It is not known how the grenade ended up where it was located.

Late last month in Limon, a suspect threw a hand grenade at officers of the Tactical Response Special Services (SERT) who were carrying out an operation in the area of Barrio Quinto.  Luckily for the officers, the device failed to detonate.
