U.S. security teams arrive in Blackhawk helicopters and C-17 to prepare for Obama visit

April 29th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A dozen U.S. aircraft have already arrived at Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaria Airport, including Blackhawk helicopters and a C-17 transport plane, carrying the security teams who will ensure the safety of U.S. President, Barack Obama, when he arrives in the country on May 3rd.

 

Obama will be in Costa Rica on May 3rd and 4th, meeting with regional leaders as part of the Central American Integration System (SICA) summit.

 

It was announced last week that Obama would not make any public appearances during his Costa Rica visit.  Costa Rican authorities cited concerns over possible protests, as well as security concerns following the Boston bombings.

 

Editor’s note: This article has been corrected.  The original used C-17′s in plural, which was an error.  Current reports indicate that there is more than one Blackhawk helicopter, but only one C-17.  The other types of aircraft involved are unknown at this time.

    Please don’t make this partisan. They all do it Dem. & Rep. They should catch up with the 20th century and try conference calling or video conferencing. Things will only change for the working class. Get worse that is!!

    I heard that 2 Lockheed C-5 Galaxies arrived, unloaded, and departed, and there are 3 Blackhawks in the Vigilancia Aereo’s hangers. Glad that I don’t live near the Intercontinental Real hotel or in downtown SJ. Anyone know when Air Force One arrives?

    I must admit that I didn’t understand what all goes into a presidential visit until all this coverage of Obama’s visit. Now that I have an inkling, I’m of the strong opinion that US presidents should stay home a lot more and invite other leaders to DC. I would like to see the total cost for Obama’s weekend in Costa Rica. Maybe I’m way off, but the cost has to be in the tens of millions of dollars. This is an awful lot to spend on a one-day meeting. Worse, it is affecting Costa Rica businesses, and is thus likely to stimulate resentment against the US. I realize that the guy can’t take Spirit air and rent a regular hotel room, but it’s ridiculous how big and costly a production this is.

      i lived in DC while much younger in a hood with all fed workers. my dad was a USDA economist. no matter how bad you think government is, it is much worse. my father despised his own work. that we have ceded every part of our lives to governments speaks very badly of the human race.
