ICE workers, including customer service, on massive strike today; avoid Sabana Norte

April 29th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) If you were planning a trip to an ICE office today, or were planning to be in the area of Sabana Norte, you may want to change your plans.  The ICE workers union will be on strike today, in protest of the signing of a contract with a company that will provide much awaited “number portability” in the country.  Number portability is the ability to change telephone service providers without changing your phone number.

 

According to Fabio Chavez, a union coordinator, in addition to a massive protest of more than 10,000 employees outside the main ICE building in Sabana Norte, a march through San Jose to the Congress building in Cuesta de Moras is also planned.

 

Union members say that ICE signed the contract with their “arms twisted,” as a result of what they describe as threats and blackmail.

 

Chavez said that ICE customer service would “remain paralyzed” throughout the day.

 

Workers are expected to begin gathering outside the ICE building in Sabana Norte at 9am.

    Once again ICE managers show their strong-arm tactics. They know that they cannot compete so they use coercion and disruption to force their way. Then they falsely accuse those that would have progress of using tactics that they use themselves.

      They need to be protectionist … only way they can advance economically. Certainly not from their quality of service or productive output. You know, those things that free enterprise promotes.

    I hope the number portability becomes a reality. I am so tried of ice workers standing in the way of progress. For the most part ice workers are lazy people and all they do is complain and never get anything done. Ice has outlived its usefulness. It is a Polaroid camera in digital world.
