April 22nd, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Police officers, immigration officers and prison guards will protest beginning this morning at 10am, starting at San Jose’s Central Park and culminating at the Legislative Assembly, where the officers will present a petition to lawmakers.
Officers are protesting the Medical Incentive Act, which forces the government to provide additional financial incentives to the country’s doctors whenever the base salary of civil servants is increased.
Officers say that the Act means that the government does not give police officers sufficient pay increases, in order to avoid the cost of additional financial incentives and salary increases to doctors.
The basic salary of a Fuerza Publica officer is currently 244,000 colones per month, or about $488 USD.
