Venezuelans in Costa Rica protest Maduro election outside their embassy

April 16^th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Banging pots and pans, singing their national anthem and chanting, Venezuelans in Costa Rica protested the election of Nicolas Maduro as their country’s president outside the Venezuelan Embassy yesterday.  Maduro, a former bus driver and Chavista, won a special election on Sunday to become that country’s new president after the death of former president, Hugo Chavez.

Protestors outside the Venezuelan Embassy in Costa Rica said they were protesting the “fraudulent manipulation” of the vote count.

Victor Quintero, one of the protestors on the scene, told local media that the protest had been organized via Facebook, and that other protests were emerging at other Venezuelan embassies throughout the world.

“We are joining together because we have family there and [Maduro’s election] hurts our country’s situation.  Democracy has been kidnapped,” Quintero said.

The protestors called for a new vote count, while at the same time calling for Henrique Capriles to become the president of Venezuela.
