Most Costa Ricans have favorable view of Barack Obama, U.S. relations

April 16^th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A recent opinion poll conducted by CID-Gallup for the local online news site, CRHoy.com, revealed that 61% of Costa Ricans consider the United States to be Costa Rica’s strongest ally, and three quarters of Costa Ricans have a positive image of the United States and President Barack Obama.

The poll also revealed that 48% of Costa Ricans believe that the two countries should have even closer relations, while 41% described the relationship between the countries as “fine as is,” while just 7% said they would like to see Costa Rica distance its relations with the United States.

Regarding the planned visit of the U.S. President to the country in May, 81% said they thought the visit would better the relations between the countries, though only 33% believed his visit would “greatly” improve relations.

Barack Obama would also seem to be quite popular with Costa Ricans – 78% of respondents said they have a favorable opinion of the U.S. President.

The poll was conducted between April 3^rd and 5^th, with a sample of 834 people and a 95% degree of confidence.
