Number of dengue cases skyrockets over last year
April 10th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Nearly 7,000 people have or have had dengue so far this year, and just this figure represents an increase of 300% over the number of cases reported last year, according to the CCSS.
This is the third highest number of infections seen in the past ten years. According to authorities, this year is unusual in that dengue infections continued strong through the dry season, and authorities are concerned what the outcome will be once rainy season begins.
Dr. Catalina Ramirez said that the most affected areas include Canas, Abangares, Nicoya, Santa Cruz, Alajuela, Puntarenas, and Esparza.
