Government to install Internet access in all public schools

April 10th, 2013 (Infosurhoy) President Laura Chinchilla’s administration has pledged to install Internet access in every public school so students can compete in a digital world.

One hundred fifty-one of the Central American nation’s 4,800 public schools will get Internet access this year, state-owned telephone and electric company ICE said in a prepared statement.

ICE is working with the Public Education Ministry and the Science and Technology Ministry to provide Internet access to the country’s 940,000 public school students.

“We are committed in matters of education to reducing the digital divide,” Education Minister Leonardo Garnier said in prepared statement.

Garnier said putting Internet access in public schools is vital for keeping students competitive internationally.

A total of 98% of the country’s 4.5 million residents are literate, with 96% of children completing primary schools and 86% attending high school, according to the government.

This sounds like a very good thing. But here I am again, making the same mistake TWICE of renting a house close to a school when school is out. The internet is okay when the school is out, and there is nothing of the screaming, drums, and loud music. But when the students return, I can’t even get on the internet most of the time because the government can afford max bandwidth. So I am recommending no one repeat my mistakes, and use utmost caution when thinking about living close to a school. They produce an incredible amount of pure racket during all the day and sometimes even up to nine or ten at night.
