China will finance the replacement of Costa Rica’s public transport fleet

April 2nd, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Costa Rica’s Minister of Environment and Energy, Rene Castro, toured China last week in an effort to strengthen environmental cooperation on clean energy.

 

Castro’s primary purpose of the trip was to convince China to fund the replacement of Costa Rica’s fleet of taxis and buses with “greener” vehicles, a mission he said he was able to accomplish.

 

Castro explained that Costa Rica was able to secure long-term loans of approximately $50 million towards the project.

 

In return, Costa Rica will provide consulting to China regarding reforestation and reducing emissions.

    This is why doña Laura was so keen on getting the “State secret” law run through congress. What about all those police cars donated by China maybe a year ago, that are now sitting on the junk pile? What about that GD white elephant stadium China built for CR? These loans don’t come free, and will likely be passed on for generations — assuming the global economic collapse doesn’t happen after all. When it comes, though, there necessarily will be a reckoning, and my guess is that CR will have to pay with its natural resources, including land.
