INTERNATIONAL: North Korea threatens to attack Guam, Hawaii, and U.S. mainland

March 26th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) North Korea ordered its army to combat readiness today, and ordered its strategic missile units to be prepared for an attack on the U.S. mainland and the islands of Hawaii and Guam.

North Korea had threatened last Thursday to attack U.S. military bases in Japan and Guam.

The tension on the Korean Peninsula has increased after multiple threats from North Korea of an armed response to the joint military maneuvers between South Korea and the United States, and U.N. sanctions imposed on the North after its nuclear test last month.

A statement from the Supreme Command of the Korean People’s Army, released today in North Korean official media, ordered “all artillery troops including strategic missile units and long-range artillery to be placed in preparation for ‘A Class’ combat.”

“Units must be prepared to attack all U.S. military bases in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as the continental U.S., Hawaii and Guam, as well as South Korea,” the statement continued.

The 28-year-old North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un, has visited military forces on the border with South Korea in recent weeks.

Despite the threats, most experts believe that North Korea is still years away from developing a ballistic missile that could reach the United States, however its missiles could hit U.S. bases in Japan and South Korea.
