March 22nd, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) At least eleven cantons have decided not to restrict the sale of alcoholic beverages during Easter Holy Week this year.
The decisions have come after changes to the law which now allows each municipality to decide for itself to enforce the ban, or not.
The municipalities of San Ramon, Curridabat, Guatuso, Osa, Aguirre, Guacimo, Coto Brus, Parrita, San Jose, Tilaran and Nicoya have also decided to permit the sale of alcoholic beverages this year.
If you’re in Cartago however, don’t plan on imbibing. The mayor of Cartago, Rolando Rodriguez, has decided to continue the Semana Santa prohibition in order to protect the “religious and moral” values of his community.
