March 13th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) – According to a survey by the Costa Rican Chamber of Hotels, hotel occupancy is expected to be about 82% during Holy Week this year, March 24th – 31st.

Nationally – taking into account hotels in the city and central valley, hotel owners expect to fill 71% of rooms.

Hotels on the country’s coasts expect the highest occupancy, hoping to fill 86.5% of rooms.

Hotels in the province of Guanacaste are the most optimistic, expecting 89% occupancy.

Despite the expectations, the chamber is concerned after the low occupancy rates – just 64% – recorded in January, considered part of the tourism “high season.”

Watch for the Transitos

If you’re one of the thousands expecting to visit the beach, be on the lookout for the Transit Police, which have announced increased operations beginning next week.
