March 6th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) The partner of a woman reported missing two weeks ago was arrested yesterday by the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ).
The suspect, identified by the last name Brenes, was arrested at 6pm after the skeleton of a woman was found in Liberia yesterday morning, which authorities believe could be that of his partner, Jessica Canales Artavia, 33.
At about 5pm, Brenes, a construction worker, was brought to the OIJ offices for questioning. At 6pm, authorities issued a warrant for his arrest.
The remains of the woman were found by a bicyclist who had stopped to urinate in the San Jorge neighborhood of Liberia.
Earrings were found near the remains which the woman’s father recognized as belonging to his daughter. The remains were sent to the forensics laboratory to confirm that they belong to Canales, who was the mother of five children.
