President of Costa Rica’s Supreme Court Dies

February 18th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Judge and President of the Supreme Court of Costa Rica, Luis Paulino Mora, died Sunday night.  He was 69 years old.

 

Mora, served as the former Minister of Justice during the first administration of Oscar Arias Sanchez.  On July 12th, 1999 he was elected president of the Supreme Court in place of Edgar Cervantes.

 

Mora had been hospitalized at Hospital Mexico with a cold or flu in recent days.  He apparently suffered complications and died of pneumonia.

 

Minister of Communication, Francisco Chacon, said the government decreed three days of national mourning for Mora.

 

President Laura Chinchilla visited the hospital to give her condolences to Mora’s family.

 

Mora will receive a state funeral today at 3pm at the Metropolitan Cathedral.
