According to the survey conducted annually by the Costa Rican Chamber of Hotels, 2011 showed a 55% occupancy rate, while that number fell to 54.1% in 2012.
Hotels with the lower occupancy were in the South Pacific zone, with 50% occupancy, while the most visited hotels were those in Guanacaste, which reported a 59% occupancy rate. According to the report, tourists preferred four-star lodgings.
