December 6th, 2012 (InsideCostaRica.com) The Industrial Chamber of Costa Rica expressed its opposition of rate hikes for electricity yesterday during a public hearing of the regulatory authority known as ARESEP. The rate hikes are being requested by the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), and would begin with a residential rate increase of 11.12% beginning January 1st, 2013, and would be followed by an additional rate increase of 5.69% in March.
Representatives of the Industrial Chamber told the hearing that the growth of spending at ICE has been uncontrolled, according to ICE’s own budget.
