ICE alerts clients of new phone scam

scam alert

November 28th, 2012 (InsideCostaRica.com) ICE’s cellular division, Kolbi, is warning customers that the company is not behind a fake promotion called “Responde y gana con Kolbi” (Respond and win with Kolbi).

Company officials said that they are not calling any clients, much less texting them with this “special promotion.”

The announcement was given after several ICE customers claimed to have received phone calls and text messages stating that they were the “lucky” winners of one of the vehicles that were part of a prize draw. In the message or phone call, the person is advised that in order to redeem the prize, they must put more money on a pre-paid phone card, or return a phone call to a specific number. Some were also asked to provide personal information.

Jaime Palermo, Manager for ICE client service, stated that the company wants to prevent users from being victims of fraud.

Palermo also said customers may file reports of fraudulent activity by calling 800-DENUNCIE or on the company’s web page at www.grupoice.com
