3.9 magnitude earthquake rattles Jaco

November 27th, 2012 (InsideCostaRica.com) An earthquake measuring 3.9 magnitude on the Richter scale struck near Jaco at 8:42pm last night.

 

According to Costa Rica’s National Seismological Network, the quake’s epicenter was located 26 kilometers west of Jaco (or 29 km southeast of Paquera).

 

The quake’s depth was reported to be 18.9 kilometers (11.7 miles).

 

The earthquake was reported as being felt in Jacó, Cóbano, Paquera, Montezuma and Playa Herradura. It was also felt slightly in San Jose.

 

The tremor was caused by subduction of the Cocos plate.

 

There were no reports of damage or injuries.
