Contractor killed in apparent robbery

November 26th, 2012 (InsideCostaRica.com) A contractor who managed several work crews was killed on Saturday, a victim of an apparent robbery. The man was supposedly carrying a large sum of money in order to pay his workers’ salaries.

The murder occurred around 8:00am in Llorona de Quepos, Puntarenas.  The victim was Carlos Luis Tijerino Rivera, 42. His body was found outside the vehicle in which he was travelling.

Police from the Fuerza Publica presume that the motive of the homicide was robbery, as Tijerino’s family stated that the victim was carrying a large sum of money that was missing from the crime scene.

The Red Cross said that the man was deceased upon their arrival.

“We found the vehicle in a ditch that was one-and-a-half meters deep, and next to it, the driver was found in the water, with no signs of life. There was blood inside the vehicle,” said Victor Pizarro, a first responder from Quepos.

Pizarro also said that Tijerino had numerous bruises.

“It is very sad to see that they killed him for money. The amount that he was carrying was quite considerable. He manages several crews of workers, which is why we believe that this was a robbery,” said Marlen Tijerino, sister of the victim.

Johan Fernandez, a friend of the victim, agreed with his sister. “We know that he was carrying a lot of money, which is why we do not rule out that he was killed for it. We are truly hurt,” said Fernandez.
