Barack Obama wins re-election in the United States

November 7th, 2012 (InsideCostaRica.com) President of the United States, Barack Obama, has won a second term and four more years as President of the United States.  Though the campaigns between Barack Obama and contender Mitt Romney seemed to be extremely close in the run up to the elections, in the end, President Obama took nearly every battleground state, including Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Iowa, Nevada, and Colorado, while Romney only claimed North Carolina.

Obama also appears to have won Florida, although by a very small margin of just 0.5%, though some votes in the state are still being counted this morning.  Under Florida law, a recount must be made if the margin of victory is 0.5% or less.  However, an recount will have no effect on the outcome of the election, as Obama secured 303 electoral college votes, meaning if he lost Florida in a recount, he would still have won the election.
