Small earthquake in San Jose
November 1st, 2012 (InsideCostaRica.com) The National Seismology Network stated that an earthquake of 3.0 degrees on the Richter scale was felt at 10:54 p.m. last night.
The epicenter was located 1 kilometer southeast of San Antonio, Escazu, and was 5.9 kilometers deep.
According to reports from the Seismology Network, the earthquake originated in a local fault.
Citizens in Curridabat, San Pedro (Montes de Oca), and Guadalupe felt the earthquake.
Earlier last night, another temblor occurred in the same area, with a 2.8 magnitude. There was also an earthquake in Alajuelita, of 2.4 magnitude.
According to Marino Protti, from the National Volcanology and Seismology Network (OVSICORI, in Spanish), these earthquakes could be related to the September 5th quake in Nicoya.
“There was a change in the interior of the country, as a consequence of the September 5th earthquake. This caused a swarm of earthquakes in many faults in the Guanacaste Volcanic mountain range, as well as the Tilaran and Central Valley (mountains),” he added.
