14 Police officers going to trial today

SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA – September 3rd, 2012 – A total of 14 Fuerza Publica police officers  from various delegations will be in court today on charges of stealing drugs, as well as aggravated robbery, abuse of authority, performing illegal raids, racketeering and embezzlement.

The suspects were identified by their last names of  Zuniga, Cespedes, Garcia, Reyes, Fonseca, Rojas, Mora, Campos, Castillo, Sanchez, Viquez,,Chacon and Obando.

The majority of the men were arrested by the Drug Control Police (PCD, in Spanish) agents, as well as the Specialized Narcotics Court on February 1st, 2011, in a series of 15 search warrants.

The officers would usually confiscate between 8 to 10 kilos of cocaine or marijuana.  However, they would always deliver small amounts to the authorities.
