Bombs Explode In Ecuador, Causing

Quito - Two pamphlet-bombs
exploded Thursday night targeting the
buildings of a TV channel and the Ecuadorian
Education Ministry without reports of
victims and major damages, Ecuadorian police
said on Friday.
Both explosions were registered at around
23:00 local time on Thursday (0500 GMT on
Friday) in the north of Quito.
The first explosive device blew up at the
gardens of the right-wing TV channel
Teleamazonas, where some 50 people were
working, but none of them were injured.
The second was detonated at the headquarters
of the Education Ministry.
The pamphlets found at both explosion sites
were against the government, police general
commander Freddy Martinez said.
Jorge Ortiz, Teleamazonas' presenter of the
morning news, said that the TV channel
wanted "to announce, once again, that
despite all the threats, attacks and
incomprehension, the channel will not change
by any means it decision of continuing being
an independent channel from the political
power, to inform without fear, with
objectivity, pluralism and opening."
Meanwhile, the administrative director from
the Education Ministry Patricia Martinez
told reporters that "Last night there was an
explosion outside. There were no big damages
and injuries," adding that "the issue is on
police hands."
