Plant
Caracas - Venezuelan
government took control of the PIGAP II
plant in Monagas state on Thursday in a
series of recent operations aiming at
putting these plants under government
control.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez led the
operation, which was part of the country's
transfer of its oil industry to state
control, beginning on May 8 with a similar
conduct in Maracaibo Lake.
This measure is the result of the Organic
Law approving which reserves for the State
the good and services of the main
hydrocarbon activities, which was approved
by the National Assembly on May 7.
From now on the Venezuelan government
controls 103 companies of hydrocarbons
through the state-owned Petroleos de
Venezuela (PDVSA).
Venezuelan Energy and Oil Minister Rafael
Ramirez said that the PIGAP II plant is part
of a complex of many gas compression
plantsin Jusepin and Furrial, located on
Monagas.
U.S. transnational company Williams
Companies had control of the three gas
facilities, which together produce 500,000
barrels of oil per day.
"We are exercising our economic sovereignty
to build socialism. With this act we replace
the private property for the social one,"
Ramirez said in a message broadcast by
national TV and radio.
Workers from the gas plant, members of PDVSA
high management and an Argentine delegation
were present in the operation.
