Gasoline Price Drop Approved

The price of a litre of gasoline will drop in next week with the approval of a price reduction by the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep).

The Aresep yesterday approved a drop of ¢32 colones for super, ¢39 for regular and ¢32 for diesel.

When the new prices take effect, a litre of super gasoline will cost ¢452 down from the current ¢484; regular ¢435 from ¢474; and diesel ¢354 from ¢386.

The reduction is based on a number of factors, including the tax on gasoline and the price of crude oil on international markets between March 26 and April 9.

The price drop also includes the reimbursement of ¢78 billion colones to drivers for overcharging by the state refinery, the Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo (Recope) .

The lower prices are expected to be published next week in the official government publication, La Gaceta, and take effect the day following publication.
