Drivers on the Autopista Próspero Fernández,
for first in many months, faced the tools
booths at Escazu. And as in the past, long
lines were common, forcing more than one
driver to complain during a dry run of the
toll system.
Some of the complaints voiced by drivers was
the time it took to make the payment (in
this case to be handed the ticket of proof
of payment, since the toll charges have yet
to commence) and the lack on an exclusive
lane for trucks and buses.
Guillermo Matamoros, vice-minister of
Concessions, said that the exercise is to
determine the time it will take for each
driver to pass through the toll booths.
Matamoros added that once the electronic
payment system is working, the time through
the toll booth will be minimal, as the
majority of drivers are expected to opt for
the electronic payment.
A number of heavy truck drivers also
complained on the narrow size of the toll
booth lanes.
Matamoros explained that the lane width are
a standard bases on the types of heavy truck
circulating in the country.
Once the toll booths begin to charge
drivers, the cost at Escazu will be ˘310
colones and ˘160 at Santa Ana, each way, for
light vehicles and higher for buses and
heavy trucks.
According to Matamoros, the trial runs at
the toll booths at Escazu will continue for
a several days before being charged.
