Ecuador Lifts Restrictions To Charter Flights From And To Mexico

Quito - Ecuador lifted the restrictions to charter flights from and to Mexico, which were set in late April as a preventive measure to prevent the influenza A/H1N1 epidemic, Mexican embassy in Ecuador said on Friday.

The Mexican embassy said in a statement that the decision was made on Thursday after a meeting with the Committee of Emergency operations (COE) from Ecuador by taking into account the measures taken by Mexico, which have led to "a new epidemic curve tending to lower the new cases of infection."

The announcement was made one week after the end to the restrictions to pork and pork genetic material from the countries affected with the virus and after Ecuadorian Health Minister Caroline Chang had confirmed the first case of human flu in the country.

The Mexican embassy hailed the "excellent disposition and will of dialogue from the Ecuadorian authorities to continue collaborating in the control of the virus."

It also thanked Ecuador for the decision which "will contribute to full normality of the commercial, tourism and business links between the two countries."
